“Now, we have inscribed a new memory alongside those others. It’s a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning. But not only of loss and mourning. It’s also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice, and the love that lays down its life for a friend–even a friend whose name we never knew. “
the hundreds of firefighters that gave their lifes nine years ago, stand out in my mind like vibrant colors. i mean, we all have those few people we would die for(a brother, a sister, a wife, or a husband.) but these brave men willingly went to put their own lifes on the line for people like you and me. People who they had no real connection with previously. there were around 350 firefighters that gave their lifes to save others that day, but not everyone who helped in those following weeks perished. there were the firefighters that survived, the doctors, and even civilians that were offering their talents in every way they possibly could. it showed that when our country was hurting we became one and were willing to offer a hand of kindness and love. i will never forget what happened 9 years ago today. may God be with all of the families of those who passes away in this horrific tragedy.
